〜偏見や差別をなくすために、下山さんのお話を聞く〜
東京ジャーミイ・ディヤーナト トルコ文化センター職員の下山茂さんをお招きして、イスラムについてお話を聞きます。
下山さんは大学在学中、ナイル河全域踏査隊の一員としてアフリカのスーダンへ赴き、ムスリムの村を転々としました。帰国後、出版社勤務を経てイスラミックセンター・ジャパンの設立に参画。メッカ巡礼や、フィリピンで分離独立運動を展開したモロ民族解放戦線（MNLF）など、イスラム地域の取材を数多く重ねてこられました。2010年からは東京ジャーミイ・ディヤーナト トルコ文化センターに勤務し、現在は広報・出版を担当されています。
日本に住むムスリムの人たちが増えるなか、「まずは知ることが重要」という視点から、正しいイスラム教についてお話しいただきます。ニュースやイメージだけではわからない、隣人としてのイスラムに触れてみませんか。
「共に生きる会」は2024年10月に発足した、地域活動を続けてきたおばあちゃんたちが主催する会です。異なる背景をもった人と場を共有し、知り合い、気付き、共に生きることを目指しています。高校生から80代のおばあちゃんまで、ゲストのお話を通じて多様なテーマを共に学んでいます。特定の思想、政治、宗教などについて語る場ではありませんので、安心してご参加ください。

Living Together — Let's Start by Learning: An Introduction to Islam
Listening to Mr. Shimoyama, toward a community free of prejudice and discrimination
We welcome Shigeru Shimoyama of the Tokyo Camii & Diyanet Turkish Culture Center for a talk about Islam.
While still a university student, Mr. Shimoyama joined an expedition surveying the entire Nile River, traveling through Sudan and staying in Muslim villages along the way. After returning to Japan and working in publishing, he helped found the Islamic Center Japan. He has since reported extensively across the Islamic world, from the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the Philippines. He has worked at Tokyo Camii since 2010 and now oversees its public relations and publications.
As more Muslims make their home in Japan, Mr. Shimoyama believes that understanding begins with knowing. Join us to learn about Islam beyond headlines and stereotypes, as the faith of our neighbors.
The Living Together Gathering was launched in October 2024 by a group of local grandmothers with long experience in community work. We bring together people of different backgrounds to share space, get to know one another, and learn how to live together. Participants range from high school students to grandmothers in their 80s. This is not a place to promote any particular ideology, politics, or religion, so please feel free to join.
